Documentation and Report Writing for Environmental Regulatory Inspectors

Virtual Seminar – July 29, 2026

Deadline for Registration: July 27, 2026

THIS FREE CHMIA-SPONSORED TRAINING EVENT AVAILABLE TO ACTIVE CHMIA MEMBERS ONLY!!!

Environmental regulatory inspectors perform a wide range of critical duties—from emergency response to routine inspections, audits, and interviews. Accurately documenting that work is essential to the success of both the inspector and the programs they support.
This training begins with the fundamentals of effective note taking, a review of commonly used equipment, proper handling of confidential information, and the use of supplemental tools such as sketches and photographs.
The course then transitions into report writing, emphasizing that an inspector’s report is often their first and best opportunity to clearly present all relevant facts from an inspection and to shape the official record. The session will cover what information to include, how to address problem areas or mistakes, and best practices for writing reports that are clear, accurate, and concise.

The course will be taught by Deputy District Attorney Lisa Brown, Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office.

The course is free, but pre-registration is required on the CHMIA website.
The class will be via Teams. A link to the class will be emailed the day before the class.

Contact Linnea Chander, CHMIA Central Coast Regional Director at lchandler@co.slo.ca.us if you have questions.
